Clive Smith

Residential property specialist, Clive Smith, founded Lewes Smith in September 1999, with the firm having been recently acquired by Bate & Albon. Clive is an experienced solicitor with over 45 years in residential property specialising in country houses, small developments, and helping thousands of clients navigate their moves.

Clive’s legal career began in 1970 but started working in Lewes in 1975. After qualifying, he later became a partner at Donne Mileham and Haddock, one of the South East’s leading law firms. With deep ties to the local area, Clive has lived in South Chailey after spending 20 years in Lewes and remains a well-respected figure in Sussex’s legal and property circles.

Known for his expertise, attention to detail, and long-standing commitment to his clients, Clive brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to his work. He consistently delivers high-quality service and clear, practical advice, helping to guide clients through their transactions with confidence and ease.

Alongside running a busy practice, Clive has also lectured on conveyancing for Central Law Training, Law South, and BPP, writing and presenting courses to share his knowledge with other legal professionals.

When he’s not at the office, Clive enjoys skiing and spending time at home with his wife and their three daughters, two dogs and a horse.
